LAKE ERIE
FISHING REPORT
June 26, 2008 I apologize for the lack of reports so far this season. Marina work and fishing have been taking up a bit too much of my time lately!! But I will be updating this page regularly so check back soon! The Walleye fishing in Ohio waters of Lake Erie has been a bit spotty this week as the mayfly hatch has been going on around the island areas. The best areas lately have been in the Kelley's island and western basin reef areas. The waters East or NE of Kelley's island has been good lately in 35-45ft of water. Both casting and trolling have been producing fish. Trollers have been working the areas along the Canadian border and casters have been covering the waters between Kelley's Island Shoal Gull Island Shoal. There have also been good catches from the Niagara & Crib reef areas in depths from 20-30ft of water. A few fish have been hanging in the shallow reef areas also, but most of the fish have been hanging a bit deeper lately. Look for the reef bite to be better and better as waters warm to the 70's. Canadian waters of Lake Erie around Pelee Island have been producing good numbers of Walleye lately. The west side of the island in 25-32ft have been producing fish as well as the area N of the island and NE Lighthouse point. Some of the shallow reefs around East Sister and North Harbor have had some fish as well. Trollers have been catching some nice Steelhead trout east of Kelley's Island and 20 mi. east of Pelee island. Smallmouth What few Smallmouth Bass still inhabit the Lake Erie island areas seem to be holding up in the shallower water lately around reefs in 10-25ft of water. Some fish have been accidentally caught while walleye fishing, but Bass anglers have found a few fish hanging around the north side of Middle Bass Island. The west side of Pelee island in Ontario waters has had some success lately when targeting smallmouth as well. Yellow Perch Yellow Perch fishing has been great lately. Some of the best areas lately have been just N of Cedar Point amusement park, N of Marblehead, E of Kelley's island, and S of South Bass island mostly in 30-40ft of water. The perch are hanging over the muddy bottom areas but near rocky areas lately. Fish with shiner minnows on the bottom for best results. Good luck in all of your fishing adventures! Capt.
